UIUC Wanderings, Aug-Dec 2006

I have begun grad school (PhD program in cognitive psychology at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign) and it has become my life.  I survived the first thrilling, exhausting, and momentous semester and now take a moment to collect and present the many photos I have snapped while rarely slowing down.  Here are records of my sporadic wanderings in this new and wonderful (and at times bewildering) place.

Pinball in the Illini Student Union building!	Bowling in the Illini Student Union building!	"Quad Day" at the start of the semester: all student groups aet up shop in the main quad, recruiting new students!
Quad Day continued: i grabbed some flyers even though as a grad student i don't have time for shit.	the marching band even gave a performance at Quad Day	More Quad Day
This mysterious area has something to do with the stream called The Boneyard that runs through town.	The costume & magic shop apparently does good business in this thriving college town.	Air-raid sirens set against a breath-taking sky, holding their voices to warn of a tornado should such a thing come our way.
Dude, I can totally ride a bike to campus!	See! a bike!	taking in the view from my communal office on the 8th floor of the Psychology building
re-learning how to ride a bike... it helps that the terrain is utterly FLAT.	Urbana sweet corn fesitval!!! i never thought i'd get this fired up about corn!	even rain couldnt stop the corn fest

Dude, I can even haul back packages and stuff on my bike! This is outside my apartment.	1 block from my apt: a sorry-looking mall, beneath the big blue sky.	Mas amigos! There's crap for good Mexican food around town, but at least there are some grocers where i can drown my sorrows with Jarritos.
Even the golden arches are humbled beneath the sublime and massive sky.	Hey there's even a kitsch/vintage junk store in town!	The National Guard has a fortress here too.
